Independent evaluation by a Portuguese university
Joana Oliveira was a post-license student in 2020/2021 at Higher Health School of Santa Maria, guided by Catarina Simões.

The main result is that the program is accessible and effective to teach Identification of emotions and emotional regulation strategies.

Through a partnership between Surfeel and the Higher Health School, it included part of the Surfeel program to develop a project under its specialty and hopes to publish this data soon. However, he wrote the following preliminary results:

Higher Health School of Santa Maria

"In order to comply with the Post Licence Study Plan in Community Nursing of the Santa Maria Higher School of Health was developed an internship at the Health Centers Group (ACES) of Espinho/Gaia, in the Community Care Unit (UCC) of Arcozelo/thorn. The same started in February 2021 and will end at 24 September 2021.

The methodology of health planning was used, which is constituted by the following steps: the diagnosis of situation, the definition of priorities, the setting of objectives, the selection of strategies, the elaboration of programs and projects, the preparation of execution, execution and evaluation.

The proposed theme was the approach to mental health and skills socio -emotional in children, at school.

In the diagnosis of the situation was made a survey of the needs health on health -related quality of life in children. This one survey was carried out through the application of the questionnaire Kidscreen-52 to students attending the 3rd and 4th year at the elementary school Thorn 3.

The type of study developed was descriptive, cross and approach quantitative, where a sample of 128 children was selected, after Application of a non-random sampling technique to the target population.

In the second stage of health planning - determination of priorities - health needs were identified and subsequently prioritized through the analysis grid method.

Thus, after the application of this method, the problems considered Priority for action were: provocation and general mood state.

In this sense, and following the methodology of health planning, it was elaborated a project entitled "Teaching", with the objective of sensitize the target population to the importance of identifying and managing Emotions. This project also presents as its objective to sensitize the target population for identifying various types of violence and Identify existing support resources in the community.

I used the episodes of Surfeel in health education about management of emotions, and the results obtained in this session were as follows:

  • Fee of children capable of identifying two characteristics of emotions: 98.6%
  • Fee of children capable of distinguishing at least three emotions: 99.3%
  • Fee of children capable of identifying two strategies to manage emotions: 83.1%
  • Do you consider the theme useful. : 95.1%
  • Did you understand the contents covered. : 98.6%
  • Would you like to have more sessions on this theme. : 86.6%"
